Musical icon Bobby McFerrin has carved out a unique career defined by his innovative use of the human voice. A multi-talented artist, his scope spans multiple genres, from pop success with his Grammy-winning mega-hit “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” to collaborations with renowned artists across jazz and classical music, including Yo-Yo Ma, Chick Corea, and Dizzy Gillespie. Born into a musical family, the son of celebrated opera singer Robert McFerrin, he has explored a vast range of vocal expressions, from leading his a cappella ensemble Voicestra and performing with symphonies worldwide as a conductor to paying tribute to his father’s spirituals. Honored as a 2020 NEA Jazz Master and a 2023 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, McFerrin’s work consistently pushes the boundaries of what is possible with the voice.
